parliament "funkentelechy vs. the placebo syndrome"
first, thank you sketch for getting me shock-g's "fear of a mixed planet"
so, back when i first became a digital underground junkie, i was listening to the "sex packets" album when our family friend karl walked by my room and was like "oh shit, that's a bootsy collins bassline".
i said "what"?
he's like "...bootsy collins...?.."
i shrugged my shoulders, then proceeded to start reading the production credits on the d.u. album more in depthly. then i asked karl "what's this parliament, g. clinton thing all about"?
that same day, he presented me with the album above.
HOLY SHIT!
instantly fell in love. I was amazed at how it was incorporated into the digital underground theme (faaaar before dr. dre btw), and started seeing a lot of cross-references between the two.
humpty-hump for example, i'm guessing was based by image alone from sir nose d'voidofunk.
this was my first nose-dive (lol) into "funk", and i continued to raid karls record collection snagging every p-funk album in sight.
the song "flashlight" alone is enough to make you understand what it's all about.
the whole damn album is fucking dope. no further details needed.
all you youngings need to find this album and check it, with a strong honorable mention to
"motor booty affair" that album is fantstic too.
