- The best hip-hop album ever" was the lone goal when Expertiz began writing and recording his solo debut album. Grandiose dreams of framed platinum and bling eluded in favor of internal goals. The result is keenly intellectual, eccentric hip-hop music featuring complex, well-crafted rhymes over fresh beats and samples.
Expertiz is a one man army on a mission. Merciless on the mic, he has spent years constructing an arsenal of creative and intelligent lyrics summoning scientific images, unconventional historical episodes, cultural commentary and an oral attack on a flurry of unsuspecting victims. These ideas and concepts are his alone and shun the languid conventions of "modern" hip-hop. With unyielding verbal skills, it may be surprising to note that this seed was planted in Stratford, CT, a working-class coast town an hour north of New York City. Though residing a relatively short distance away, the influence of New York City is evident when listening to The Mind That Made Mics Melt, the solo debut to be released independently.
Expertiz and his vision are the product of a passion for hip-hop's underground. He incorporates elements of the underground into his art – tight, street rhymes and a desire to be the best MC are paramount. With superior intelligence than common found in hip hop, Expertiz is able to use his lyrical content to distinguish himself from others fighting the same fight. Content to blaze his own path, Expertiz routinely exceeds the typical number of bars in rap songs. Best explored with a set of headphones, Expertiz accomplishes this in an unconventional manner: gone are the stale references to gangsta life in lieu of lyrical bombast, reinforcing his belief (and possibly yours) that you are listening to an outstanding MC.
